Playing with the Angels
It has taken me many days to write this post. Just as we were preparing to celebrate Steve's 40th birthday, we got the news. Zachary's U of M heart sister Lindsay had unexpectedly passed away, just days after her third birthday. Some of you may be familiar with Lindsay's story. We met her parents at the Ronald McDonald House in Ann Arbor before Zachary was born, and quickly became good friends with the family. Zachy and Lindsay were born with similar heart defects, but Lindsay spent most of her first year in the hospital until she received a heart transplant around her first birthday. Princess Lindsay, as she became known throughout the "heart" community, had many close calls, but always pulled through and defied the odds.
Then suddenly last Friday, God called her home.
Even before Lindsay was born, her parents knew Lindsay would be sick. They prepared themselves for the worst, time and time again. But Lindsay perservered. She received a new heart. She left the hospital. She learned to walk, to talk, and to tell knock-knock jokes. She batted her curly lashes at my own son and gave worried heart families the hope and faith to press on. She became a princess and the world fell in love with her.
Please keep Suzie, J.R., Cole, and Cruz Dean in your prayers. Pray that God grant them peace and understanding during this difficult time, until the day when they will hold their Princess once again.
It's a beautiful day up in heaven. Jesus is rounding up his tiniest angels, to go live on earth, and to be born. One of the sweetest angels says to Jesus "I don't want to leave, I like it here, and I will miss you." Jesus reassures the scared little angel that everything will be okay, and that he is just going for a visit. He is still not swayed on this idea. So Jesus kneels down, and says, "How about if you leave half of your heart here with me and take the other half with you, will that be okay?" The angel smiles and says, "I guess that will work." But the little angel is still a little scared. He asks,"Will I be okay with only half of my heart?" Jesus replies,"Of course you will. I have other angels there that will help out, and you will be fine." Then Jesus gives the angel more details about his plan. He says, "When you are born, your mommy will be scared, so you have to be strong, and when you feel weak just remember that I have the other half of your heart. Enjoy your time with your family--play and laugh everyday. And when it's time to come back to heaven, I will make your heart whole again. Always remember that you are not broken, just torn between two loves." --taken from Lindsay's blog
