Mountain Memories

Since we returned from vacation last month, we have been so caught up with school starting and real estate woes that we have hardly taken a look back on our great adventure.  Today I finally had a chance to browse our pictures and post just a few of my personal favorites (click on any of the pictures for a larger image):

Zachy checks out the stream that ran behind our cabin

The big boys were a bunch of boulder-climbing fools!

David gazes out over God's beautiful creation

Alex took an "unexpected swim"

Daddy and Zachy check out a crystal mountain lake

Joseph can find a jungle gym anywhere!

Action shot--Don't fall in, Sammy!

Window shopping in Estes Park. Zachy insisted on walking himself!

What's Colorado without a campfire?

Our cabin only had a shower, but Zachy wanted a bath...

...and so did Sam!

Above timberline, but still pink and feisty!

"The Chipmunk Whisperer"

Even in the tundra, Zachy insists on walking by himself!

Is there anything more precious?

Alex and Joseph are proud to have made it to the highest point along Trail Ridge Road.

Herds of elk grazing in the tundra

An ice storm--in August!

Here comes "Spidersam"!

We called it "David's Falls"

Zachy was more interested in playing in the water than posing

They even got me in the boat!

Pope John Paul II visited this church on his trip to Colorado several years ago

On our way home we visited the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays, Kansas

Sammy was just a little wary of the life-sized T-Rex

Alexander Arachnid

Zachary was swiping souvenirs at the gift shop

It was a fun little side trip, even though it took "Fort Hays" to get there!

On the way home we visited heart friend Olivia and her family. Olivia is just a few days older than Zachary and has Tricuspid Atresia, too. She had her surgeries up at the University of Michigan as well, but suffered many complications and spent nearly four months in the hospital! Today you would never guess Olivia has been through so much. Olivia has three olders sisters and lives out in the country in central Kansas. Our boys had a blast getting to know the family and four-wheeling along their river out back.

Too cute! Please keep little Olivia and her family in your prayers. Next week she returns to Ann Arbor for her Fontan procedure, the same operation Zachary had in June.  Thank you for your hospitality, Morgenstern family!

  1. It is so wonderful to see Zachy looking so normal and all of you on a "normal" family vacation!

Our daughter's wedding was in Estes Park, at the Stanley Hotel...so thanks for the re-visit! It was so fun to see the boys on all the spots we visited along the Trail Ridge Rd. We LOVE Colorado!

We are always thinking about you and praying from Michigan,

    Heart hugs, Elaine

  2. The pictures are great! They tell a beautiful story of a fantastic family. The boys have grown so much! Zachy looks great, and a snow storm in August??? Who has heard of such a thing?

It was good to see pictures of Olivia, too. We will keep her and her family in our prayers.

    Thanks for the updates!
