Did You Know?... Joseph

Did you know... what an incredible little traveler our Joseph has become?  During our second-shift seat configuration coming home from Colorado today, Joseph was in the middle row next to Zachary and Sammy.  The middle row is a sweet spot, where our stores of road trip snacks remain within easy reach.  So somewhere between The Middle of Nowhere, Colorado and The Middle of Nowhere, Kansas Joseph decided he was hungry.  And I soon heard the crinkle of a plastic bag and the smacking of salty lips.  After my fifth request for him to stow the potato chips, (which was about the same time the bag became empty,) Joseph finally closed it up and found himself covered in crumbs.  No sooner had I realized his snacking was over than I heard the back window roll down.  I turned around to ask him to close the window just in time to watch his t-shirt fly down the interstate at 75 miles per hour.  "Joseph!"  I hollered.  "You threw your shirt out the window!  What on earth are you doing?"  And sobbing broke out as he tried to explain, "But I just wanted to shake the crumbs off my shirt!"

A couple hours later we were nearing our destination for the evening.  We are staying in Hays overnight and plan to visit a local museum of natural history and meet some friends for lunch before making the final stretch tomorrow.  The boys were growing increasingly impatient with the long road and constantly asking "How much longer until we get to our hotel?"  Fortunately the older boys have learned to read road signs to estimate distances, and Joseph was eager to offer his help.  "Joseph," I asked.  "Take a look at that sign up ahead.  Read it to me.  What does it say?"  And with all his phonetic prowess, he read:  Fort Hays Museum.  "That's right!"  I exclaimed.  "Wow, Joseph, you're such a great reader!  That's the Sternberg Museum we're visiting, where we'll see lots of dinosaurs."  "Yep," Joseph continued.  "And it will take four days to get there!"
Fort Hays = Four Days?
