Happy 4th!
Happy Independence Day, Family and Friends!
We don't get to go out for fireworks today, but we certainly do have plenty to celebrate! Even though the day started rough and Zachy didn't feel well all morning,
after a long nap he woke happy and playful.
The drainage from his chest tubes has slowed considerably and he no longer needs extra oxygen. He's getting much easier to hold as he sheds all this equipment! This afternoon we were given orders to get him on his feet, but I was doubtful he would have the energy to do much walking. Surprise, surprise! Zachy took off!
He kicked back and watched a movie with Daddy,
strolled around the hospital,
and ate a HUGE spaghetti and chicken dinner! He is now settled in for the evening.
BIG NEWS FLASH: We were just given NPO (fasting) orders for tomorrow morning because his last chest tubes are coming out! Do you know what this means, guys? WE WILL SOON BE HEADING HOME! Tomorrow they will take a set of labs, pull his central line and chest tubes, and continue to encourage him to eat and move around. Tuesday he will likely go for a discharge echo and chest x-ray, and if all checks out, we are looking at discharge late Tuesday or Wednesday. Let's keep our fingers crossed and pray that there are no unexpected complications.
I am missing my big boys! They seem to all be enjoying the time they are spending with family, but from time to time I can detect a bit of homesickness in their voices and I think they may possibly be missing us a little. Joseph has been swiping Papa's cell phone to make covert calls to us and even sending text and picture messages. How is it that my six year-old is more cell savvy than his mama? They are a little bummed that Wichita was getting rain all day, but they found a break in the storms long enough to satisfy their pyromania.
Thank you again for your messages of support and your prayers. They are helping us get through a difficult hospitalization and bringing a smile back to Zachy's sweet little face.
