Zachy's Cardio Checkup and 18-Month Pictures

Memorial Day was exciting for us all; it was Joseph's birthday and we enjoyed a poolside cookout and a day of sun and swimming with good friends.  Zachy loves the water, and was threatening to jump in with no one to catch him.  He did take a full plunge when he was playing on the pool steps, but after some reassurance from Mommy, he zipped right back toward the water.  He's a tough one around the pool; he doesn't want anyone hovering around him to catch him if he falls in, and he's not careful enough to keep his balance on the edge!

Before the big cookout, Zachy went for his eighteen month pictures.  He was not very cooperative and kept running right out of the studio in the middle of his sitting!  Though they could have been better, we caught a few poses I especially love:

Yes, eighteen months. Tomorrow, June 2, Zachy will be a year and a half old already! What happened to my tiny, helpless newborn? These days that little boy has an extreme sense of independence and won't sit still for more than two seconds. He had his cardiology checkup today, and I had to half laugh when the doctor asked, "Does he ever get out of breath?"

Really, it's no laughing matter. But I have never seen Zachy tire from activity, and in fact he generally runs circles around his older brothers. This is a GOOD sign that his heart is keeping up with his body, and I hope and pray that he will continue to thrive after surgery later this month.

Of course, I am dreadfully nervous about the procedure and complications that could occur post-op. But I trust that God will guide his surgeon's hands and that all the doctors and nurses will be on top of their game to help Zachy through recovery. The part I really dread is the fear and confusion poor Zachary will face to be back in the hospital. Ever since his Hemi-Fontan last June, Zachary cries, screams, and kicks if a doctor or nurse so much as looks at him. This morning during his checkup, he put up such a fight that the nurse was barely able to attach his EKG sensors and get a O2 sats reading as I held him down. Even Dr. Battiste called him a breath-holder and has mentioned before that she's surprised he doesn't pass out during these episodes. Everything checked out great, thank goodness.  But poor Zachy, though the tests were all painless, was left traumatized and exhausted from his fit-throwing. Only imagine how he'll react to the pre-op tests and post-op hospital recovery! I'm just not ready and not sure how to get him through this again. Please keep those prayers coming... we are now less than a month away!

  4. Those pictures came out AMAZING! It's a good thing he didn't cooperate any better because you would have had to remortgage the house just to buy pictures, lol!
I will keep the prayers going for Zachy and the rest of the family!
