Summer Reading

I'm planning to take the boys to our local library today to sign up for its summer reading program and pick up a few books (and movies!) They're not the kind to spontaneously pick up a book and read; instead they spontaneously pick up the TV remote. Still, they are good readers, and my little Joseph sounds out everything he sees.

Hold that thought.

It has been HOT in Wichita this week, but that doesn't seem to keep the boys from playing outside. So I filled a small cooler with ice and water to leave out for them during the day, and encourage them to take a drink whenever they feel thirsty. This morning Joseph was filling his cup with water from the cooler (it's so much more fun than using the kitchen faucet!)

"You know, Mommy," he suggested. "We could fill this with CHOCOLATE MILK!"

Yummy idea, but I refused. "We're only putting water in that jug, Joe-Joe."

And then my little reader got smart. Referencing the label still on the jug, he pointed out, "But it says 'Easy to clean'!"

Wow... I was impressed. Kindergartners haven't learned the "ea" combination yet.

"You can read that?" I remarked.

"I sure can! It says 'Easy to clean removable fukit'!"

  1. He is too funny! Did I ever tell you that one day we were talking about "Charlie and the Chocolate factory" and I said "How fun would it be to swim in a river of chocolate!" He was not too impressed with swimming in a river of chocolate but said ," I prefer chocolate milk... We could fill the bathtub with CHOCOLATE MILK and swim in it!!!!" I supported the idea...but that's my job as an Aunt... :)

  2. That's great! I'm impressed that he can read those words! Noah goes to Kindergarten next year and I don't think he can really read much of anything yet!
