In the Cath Lab

Zachy has been back in the cath lab for about an hour and a half now, and we are waiting for an update. He was to start at 10:30, but remember--we are on hospital time so it was 12:30 before he actually went back.

We got to meet with Dr. Lloyd who is performing the cath, as well as a cardiology fellow and nurse practitioner who will be in the lab with him. Each time a doctor came in, Zachy shook his head "no." And each time they left the exam room, he was sure to wave a big "bye-bye", hoping that would keep them away. In fact, once Dr. Lloyd left the room, Zachy got up, walked over to the door, and closed it behind him, as if that would keep anymore unwanted doctors and nurses out.
Zachy didn't put up such a fight this morning as yesterday, but was overall unhappy and very clingy.  He didn't like getting undressed and putting on his hospital gown, and he resisted his hospital bracelet.  We just held and loved on him all we could.
Finally, after his sedation shot left him in la-la land, it was time to take him down to the lab.
He was awake, but too drugged to care what was going on.
The cath lab looked harsh and scary to me, but the people who are working with Zachy assured us they would treat them just as they would their own child.  It's clear they have a passion of working with children.
Then it was time to say good-bye.
They assured us he will be asleep and comfortable before starting the procedure.

Well, all has not been boring and scary for Zachy.  The past couple of days he has had some fun as well.  Yesterday Daddy took him to the arboretum next to the RMH, where they found a couple of John Deere tractors (get a load of this, Sammy!)

And this morning when he was admiring the tractors, a gardener offered to give him a ride!

Zachy got to talk to his brothers last night, which was such a treat because he really, really misses them :-(
And thankfully the iPod has kept him distracted when he would otherwise be throwing a fit.  This morning he watched his favorite show, PBS's "Super Why," while mommy applied lidocaine cream to his catheter entry points.
Thank you again for all your support and prayers.  We're hoping for a good results in this cath, which will map the road for a less complicated and successful surgery tomorrow.
