Stoop and Recover
Stoop and recover. That's, I guess, the official term to denote how a baby bends over to pick up something off the floor, and stands back up without falling on his head or his bum. Stoop and recover. That's the milestone Zachy hadn't conquered that officially classified his as "behind" in gross motor development. Stoop and recover.
That's the milestone Zachary finally reached! (At almost 17 months, but who's counting?) And not only does he "stoop and recover," but now Zachy can get himself standing up from the ground, which means he no longer needs to crawl anywhere and he is no longer wearing holes in the knees of his pants (well, not as bad as he was, at least!)
And Zachy has picked up a few new words, too. Lately he gets all excited and chants "Papa, Papa!" when we go to visit his grandparents, and hollers "nana" for "banana." He has also adopted Sammy's love of tractors and recently exclaimed "Deere!!!" when we passed a big green tractor on the street. He will say "Mama," but the word is not as popular as "Dada." And he's certainly "talking" in his own language much more.
Another exciting event in Zachy's life is saying "Goodbye and good riddance!" to all his fancy medical equipment (the oxygen tanks, pulse oximeter, and suction unit.) We waited until flu season was over this year, but he has had no problems so today we shipped them off! Hard to imagine that just a year ago he was battling a nasty virus and was on oxygen 24/7:

So much has changed!
And it's hard to imagine that in two short months, they will open his sweet little chest and stop his heart from beating... again. It's our hope that this final planned operation will keep his heart strong and beating for many, many years to come.

Zach is such a fighter! It is amazing what a lively baby he is after all he has gone through!
