Introducing... Did You Know? Fridays
Starting this week, I will post a little-known fact each Friday about one of our family members. Who knows? If you keep reading, you may discover a deep, dark secret about one of us, or find that you or your children have something quite in common with our family!
Today on "Did You Know..."
Did you know, do you have any idea, how much my David LOVES dinosaurs? Did you know that "dino" was one of his first words? Even at a very young age, he built with them,
loved on them,

and slept with them!

He was so enraptured with these prehistoric creatures, that one time he even "baptized" one! Alas, we did not catch the event on film, but my mother's literacy skills relate the excitement better than any camera:

HOLY BRONTOSAURUS!
The Mass was close to starting
And the church was getting crowded
That David would be quiet
Was a concept we all doubted.
'Cause Alex was in "Little Lambs"
And couldn't entertain him
And Grandma, Papa, Mom and Dad
Were hard pressed to restrain him.
So Daddy carried David
Through the busy gathering space
Into the back of church and there
Was David's favorite place!
The huge and glistening water pool
Had always mystified him
So Dad was smart to keep that
Curious youngster close beside him.
But David saw the big folks
Dip their fingers in the pool
So of course He begged to do it!
Why, that kid was no one's fool!
Well, Daddy picked him up and
Leaned him closer to the font
So he could get his chubby hands
As wet as he might want.
Then all too late Dad saw the thing
Clutched tight in Davy's hand ...
The plastic dinosaur he brought
From home, as contraband.
Now David thought a second,
Then he LAUNCHED that dinosaur,
And the "SPLASH!!!" that resonated
Thrilled him to his very core!
"Quick! Get it!" hollered Daddy
But poor Davy was too little
The plastic toy bobbed placidly
Out somewhere in the middle.
An usher, grinning, reached out
But the pool was far too wide
So heedless of his soaking cuffs
He 'waved' it to the side.
And in a bit it bobbed till it was
Close enough to capture
Then reunited with his toy,
Young David smiled in rapture.
By then that solemn house of God
Was rife with stifled giggles.
And David celebrated with
His usual squirms and wiggles.
So if a pagan Pteranodon
Or heathen T-Rex finds you
I hope the thought of David's
Little escapade reminds you...
That even plastic dinosaurs
Are precious in God's sight
And two-year-olds can baptize
.... If their timing is just right!
